Talk VALUES to win. Enact policies to govern. But win first.

Republicans offer values. Democrats offer policies. Guess what? Values often win, even when the policies are more popular. It’s about time Democrats learned how to talk (and think) in terms of the underlying values that make them Democrats — values that are more widely shared by Americans than the values Republicans espouse. George Lakoff’s Little Blue Book is the essential handbook for thinking and talking Democratic – must reading not only for every Democrat but for every responsible citizen.

—Robert B. Reich, Chancellor’s Professor of Public Policy, University of California, Berkeley.

Theories Divide People. Stories Unite Them.

If you are among those despairing over the progressive inability to capture voter’s hearts and, well, votes by telling a good story, you are not alone. Want to know how we change that? By all of us learning how to tell a good story and getting out there and doing it. If you don’t know how and want to good primer to get you started turn your parched political narrator to some juicy guidance from George Lakoff. His Little Blue Book is well known by certain politophiles, but unfortunately not by the ones doing most of the talking. We can follow Ghandi’s advice and “be the change” by reading this little tome, putting its ideas into practice and encouraging others to do the same. Let’s stop performing the same progressive liturgy of pulling our hair out while muttering “why can’t they seize the narrative?” and reach out to grasp the narrative ourselves.
